Course description

Ethical decisions don’t end when the school bell rings.

This workshop explores the unique ethical landscape interpreters navigate in educational settings—from kindergarten classrooms to high school gyms. Led by Dr. James Kilpatrick, the session delves into the gray areas of educational interpreting, where boundaries, roles, and responsibilities are often tested.

Participants will engage in discussions and scenario-based learning that spotlight common ethical dilemmas, including dual relationships, confidentiality, student advocacy, and team dynamics. The workshop also addresses the interpreter’s role as part of an educational team while upholding professional standards in a student-centered environment.

Designed to support interpreters in making informed, values-driven decisions, this course helps protect both the student and the integrity of the profession.
