Course description

Allies in Deafhood (PPO)

This workshop explores the concept of Deafhood and how hearing individuals—especially interpreters, educators, and other professionals—can become authentic, respectful allies. Rooted in the work of Dr. Paddy Ladd, the session challenges participants to move beyond surface-level support and into deeper, more accountable relationships with the Deaf community.

Through discussion, self-reflection, and real-world examples, participants will examine how to identify and challenge audism, center Deaf voices, and cultivate practices that empower rather than overshadow. The workshop encourages a shift from doing for the Deaf community to working with them, emphasizing relational accountability, cultural humility, and continuous learning.
